An Agadir camel ride and BBQ at sunset is possible from a cruise ship, but only on long calls. If your ship stays from 08:00 to 22:00, as AIDAblu, AIDAmar and Mein Schiff 3, 7 and Relax typically do, the 16:00 Berber dinner with Gnaoua music fits exactly and the Timlalin sunset camel ride fits at 15:00 or 16:00. On shorter calls, the honest answer is no: choose the daytime camel ride with a BBQ meal instead.
Here is the arithmetic behind that answer, ship by ship, and why we will not stretch our margin to squeeze in a sunset.
The three evening options
| Ride | Price per person | Time we plan for | Pickup at the terminal |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sunset camel ride with BBQ dinner | 39 € | 3 hours | 17:05 (sunset); 10:05, 12:05, 14:05 (daytime with meal) |
| Sunset camel ride, Berber dinner and Gnaoua music | 39 € | 4 hours | 16:00 |
| Timlalin dunes sandboarding and sunset camel ride | 25 € | 4 hours | 15:00, 16:00 (also 08:00, a morning trip) |
All three are run in English and French. Sunset times change through the season, so check the sunset time for your date; what matters for cruise guests is not the sunset itself but when you get back to the ship.
How the timing works
We calculate every ride the same way:
- Back at the terminal = pickup time + the full planned duration + 30 minutes' drive.
- You must be back at least 60 minutes before all-aboard.
- If your line has not published an all-aboard time, we assume it is 30 minutes before departure.
A ride only appears on your call page if it passes that test.
Agadir camel ride and BBQ on an 08:00-22:00 call
If your ship docks at 08:00 and leaves at 22:00, all-aboard defaults to 21:30, so you need to be back at the terminal by 20:30. This is the pattern for AIDAblu and Mein Schiff 7, as well as AIDAmar, Mein Schiff 3 and Mein Schiff Relax. Mein Schiff Flow (07:00-22:00) has the same evening cut-off.
| Ride and pickup | Back at the terminal | Fits? |
|---|---|---|
| Berber dinner and Gnaoua, 16:00 | 20:30 | Yes, exactly |
| Timlalin sunset ride, 16:00 | 20:30 | Yes, exactly |
| Timlalin sunset ride, 15:00 | 19:30 | Yes, with an hour to spare |
| Sunset BBQ ride, 17:05 | 20:35 | No, five minutes past the margin |
| Daytime BBQ ride, 14:05 | 17:35 | Yes |
So on these long calls you can have a proper evening: sunset light on the dunes or by the river, dinner and live music, and still be at the terminal an hour before all-aboard. If you want the most breathing room, the 15:00 Timlalin ride is the comfortable choice.
Why we do not bend the margin by five minutes
The 17:05 BBQ ride misses by only five minutes on paper. We still do not offer it on these calls, for three reasons:
- Traffic. The coast road back into Agadir can be slow in the late afternoon and evening. A 30-minute drive is a plan, not a promise.
- The ship does not wait. Ships do not hold departure for independently booked tours. Missing the ship is expensive and stressful, and nothing we do afterwards can undo it.
- Consistency. Every call page uses the same rule. If we shaved it for one ride, you could not trust it for any of them.
Our 60-minute margin is careful planning, not a guarantee. It is there to absorb the things nobody can control. If you prefer the ship to carry that risk, our page on ship excursions vs independent tours compares the two honestly.
AIDAprima, 07:00-21:00: one sunset option
AIDAprima arrives earlier but also leaves earlier. Default all-aboard is 20:30, so you need to be back by 19:30.
- Timlalin sunset ride at 15:00: back at 19:30, fits exactly.
- Berber dinner at 16:00: back at 20:30, does not fit.
- Sunset BBQ ride at 17:05: back at 20:35, does not fit.
- Daytime BBQ ride at 10:05, 12:05 or 14:05: fits, with the 14:05 start back around 17:35.
Calls where a sunset ride does not fit
On the shorter calls in our current calendar, no sunset ride fits:
- Phoenix Reisen (Amera, Amadea), 08:00-20:00: back by 18:30. No sunset ride, but the daytime BBQ ride fits at 10:05, 12:05 or 14:05.
- Marella Discovery 2, 09:00-18:00: back by 16:30. Daytime BBQ ride at 10:05 or 12:05.
- Oceania Sirena, 08:00-18:00: back by 16:30. Daytime BBQ ride at 10:05 or 12:05.
- Costa Smeralda, Oceania Allura and Explora II: these calls end at 16:00 or 17:00. The daytime BBQ ride fits at 10:05 only.
- Seven Seas Navigator and Oceania Sirena's 11:00-18:00 calls: daytime BBQ ride at 12:05 only.
- Azamara Onward: too short for any meal ride. On the 08:00-14:00 call, only the 2-hour camel ride at 10:00 fits; on the 08:00-13:00 call nothing fits, so message us on WhatsApp for a custom plan or stay in town.
The daytime BBQ ride: the meal without the sunset
If your ship leaves too early for an evening ride, the BBQ ride at 10:05, 12:05 or 14:05 gives you the same experience in daylight: a drive of about 25 minutes to a ranch near the Souss River, about an hour riding through eucalyptus forest towards the river, then a Moroccan BBQ or a traditional Moroccan menu with mint tea. It costs the same 39 €. Tell us about dietary needs when you book.
If you would rather skip the meal, the 2-hour camel nature ride at 18 € fits almost every call and leaves time for lunch in town.
What each evening looks like
Berber dinner with Gnaoua music
About 25 minutes' drive to Oued Souss, then a sunset ride with photos for about 1 hour 15. A transfer of about 20 minutes takes you to Kasbat Souss for dinner: couscous, barbecue and dessert, with live Gnaoua music, for about 1 hour 30. Water is included; other drinks are extra. Groups are capped at 15.
Timlalin dunes and sunset ride
A coastal drive past Taghazout's surf spots, a photo stop at the Colors Village of Aghroud, a short visit to a hidden canyon, a sandboarding lesson on the Timlalin dunes, then a sunset camel ride and mint tea. Up to 20 people. It is not suitable for people with back problems or mobility impairments, or for wheelchair users.
Which evening suits you?
- You want dinner and atmosphere: the Berber dinner with Gnaoua music. It is the longest evening, with a sit-down meal and live music, and it works best for couples and groups who are happy to relax rather than be active.
- You want activity and big views: the Timlalin trip. Sandboarding, a canyon and the coast road make it a fuller afternoon, and the 15:00 start is the one with the most spare time before the ship.
- You want the meal but your ship leaves early: the daytime BBQ ride. You trade the sunset for a relaxed lunch-time ride and a far bigger margin.
Whatever you choose, book through your ship's call page so you only see start times that work for your day.
Before you book an evening ride
- Confirm the all-aboard time in the daily programme the evening before. If it is earlier than the default, recalculate: with all-aboard at 21:00 on an 08:00-22:00 call, your back-by time becomes 20:00, and the 16:00 rides no longer fit. Your call page in our cruise calendar shows what fits.
- Pack a layer. Winter evenings are cooler than the days, and a scarf helps against wind and sand.
- Bring your cruise card and ID to get back through the port gate. The Agadir port guide explains the return.
More detail for long-call ships is in our guides to AIDA in Agadir and Mein Schiff in Agadir, and if you would rather ride a horse than a camel, see horse riding near Tamri beach.
Book your evening, or your daytime meal
Find your ship and date in the cruise calendar. On a long call, the Berber dinner with Gnaoua music at 16:00 is the full evening experience. On a shorter call, book the camel ride with BBQ as a daytime meal and enjoy the sunset from the ship's deck.
