Agadir in One Day: 3 Realistic Plans for Cruise Passengers

Agadir in one day works best with one main activity and a short wander, not a checklist. On a port day you can realistically ride camels to the Souss River and stroll the beach promenade, see goats in argan trees and visit Crocoparc, or, on a long call, take a half-day trip to the walled town of Taroudant. Marrakech is not a realistic day trip from the ship, whatever the brochures suggest.

Below are three sample plans, with times taken from the ship schedules in our current calendar, plus tips on lunch, money and what to skip.

What is realistic in Agadir in one day, and what is not

Start with your real window, not the hours printed on your ticket. Add 30 minutes to arrival to get off the ship and through the gate, and plan to be back at the terminal at least an hour before all-aboard. On an 08:00-22:00 call that leaves around 12 hours; on a 09:00-18:00 call around 7; on short calls, 5 or fewer. Our hour-by-hour port day plan shows the maths.

What does not work on a port day:

  • Marrakech. It is several hours' drive each way. You would spend most of your day in a car and arrive with no margin for the return. Leave it for a land holiday.
  • Multi-day desert tours. They never fit a port call, however long.
  • Paradise Valley in a rush. It is a beautiful valley inland, but it means roughly an hour or more on the road each way, and the pools depend on recent rain. We do not sell trips there; our Paradise Valley comparison explains the trade-off honestly.

A note on expectations: Agadir was largely rebuilt after the 1960 earthquake, so the centre is modern. Its charm lies in the long beach, the bay views from the Kasbah hill, and the countryside just outside the city, rather than in an old medina.

Plan 1: nature, with a camel ride and the beach promenade

This plan fits almost every call in our calendar.

  • Morning: the 2-hour camel nature ride, 18 € per person. You are collected at the cruise terminal gate, ride about 1 hour 30 along eucalyptus trails to the Souss River, stop for photos and mint tea, and are driven back. From a 10:00 start you are at the terminal around 12:30.
  • Lunch: take the ship's shuttle (if your line runs one) or an orange petit taxi to the beach promenade or the marina, where cafés and restaurants line the seafront.
  • Afternoon: walk the corniche, paddle at the water's edge, and head back to the gate in good time. The coast road can be slow in the late afternoon.

If your ship arrives late, shift the plan: on an 11:00-18:00 call, the ride fits at 12:00 or 14:00. On a short 08:00-14:00 call, only the 10:00 ride fits, and you should go straight back to the ship afterwards.

Flamingos sometimes feed on the Souss River, usually between November and April, but they are never guaranteed.

Plan 2: animals, with goats in argan trees and Crocoparc

Children and wildlife fans tend to love this one.

  • 09:00 pickup: Crocoparc and tree-climbing goats, 9 € per person with a shared transfer. You stop for about 30 minutes to photograph goats climbing argan trees in the countryside, then have two hours of free time at Crocoparc, a reptile park east of the city. The visit is self-guided, and the park ticket is not included: you pay at the entrance.
  • Around 13:00: back at the terminal, since the trip takes 3.5 hours plus the drive.
  • Afternoon: free for the promenade or a rest on board.

Goat numbers vary from day to day; they are farm animals, not performers. Because of the 09:00 start, this plan needs a ship that arrives by 08:30 at the latest. It fits long AIDA and Mein Schiff calls, Costa Smeralda's usual 08:00-17:00 call, Phoenix Reisen's 08:00-20:00 calls and Oceania's earlier arrivals. It does not fit Marella Discovery 2's 09:00 arrival, because pickup can only start at 09:30.

Plan 3: culture, with Taroudant or the Kasbah and the souk

Taroudant half-day, for long and early calls

Taroudant is a walled town inland, often nicknamed "Little Marrakech". The private half-day trip costs 49 € per person, in a private car for up to four, with an English-speaking driver. You see the ramparts, walk through the medina and souks, and may stop for goats on the way (not guaranteed).

We plan this trip at 6 hours, plus the drive back, so it only fits certain calls:

  • 14:00 start on 08:00-22:00 calls (AIDAblu, AIDAmar, Mein Schiff 3, 7 and Relax): back around 20:30.
  • 08:00 start on calls that arrive at 07:00 or earlier, such as Mein Schiff Flow (07:00-22:00), AIDAprima (07:00-21:00), Oceania Allura (07:00-16:00) and Costa Smeralda's 06:00-16:00 call: back around 14:30.

Kasbah hill and Souk El Had, on your own

On shorter calls, you can still get a taste of local life. Take a taxi up the Kasbah hill (Agadir Oufella), just above the port, for views over the whole bay; you can also reach it by cable car from the city. Then head to Souk El Had, Agadir's large market, for spices, argan products, leather and everyday Moroccan shopping. Agree taxi fares before you set off and keep an eye on your bags in the crowds.

For a dose of adrenaline instead

If culture is not your thing, the quad bike and camel ride (19 €) packs an automatic quad, a camel ride across the sand and mint tea in a Berber tent into one trip. We plan it at 4 hours. It is not suitable for pregnant women or anyone with back problems.

A sample long-call day at a glance

Time08:00-22:00 call (example)
08:00Ship docks
08:30Earliest pickup at the gate
09:00Crocoparc and goats trip departs
13:00Back at the terminal
14:00Taroudant half-day departs
20:30Back at the terminal, an hour before the default 21:30 all-aboard

This is a full day, and it is fine to do just half of it. If your ship publishes an earlier all-aboard, drop the afternoon plan or choose a shorter one. Your call page always shows only what fits.

Lunch and money tips

  • Currency. Morocco uses the dirham. Cards are not accepted everywhere, so carry some cash for lunch, taxis and the souk.
  • Rides are prepaid. Our tours are paid online in euros, so you do not need dirhams for them. Keep small change for tips and drinks.
  • Eat light before riding. A camel's rocking walk is gentle, but a big lunch before a quad ride is not a good idea.
  • Water and sun. Even in winter the sun is strong. Take water, a hat and sun cream.
  • Language. French and Arabic are spoken everywhere; English and Spanish are common in tourist areas.

Getting around

Everyone leaves through the cruise terminal gate. For our rides, pickup and drop-off at the gate are included, and the driver waits with a sign showing your name. For time on your own, our port-to-town guide covers shuttles and taxis, and the Agadir port guide explains the terminal and what to bring, including your cruise card and the photo ID your ship requires.

If you are deciding between the ship's excursions and booking independently, read our honest comparison. The key point: the ship does not wait for independently booked tours, which is why we plan a 60-minute margin before all-aboard. Travelling with children? See Agadir with kids.

Plan your day in Agadir

Find your ship and date in the cruise calendar to see which plans fit your hours. If you want one easy choice that works on almost every call, start with the 2-hour camel nature ride and spend the rest of the day by the sea.

Frequently asked questions

Realistically one main activity plus some free time: a camel ride to the Souss River, goats in argan trees and Crocoparc, or the Kasbah hill and Souk El Had. On long calls, a half-day trip to the walled town of Taroudant also fits. Keep an hour's margin before all-aboard.
