Agadir from Cruise Ship: Your Hour-by-Hour Port Day Plan

Planning Agadir from cruise ship gangway to camel saddle and back again comes down to one simple sum. Take your ship's arrival time and add 30 minutes to get off and reach the gate; then plan to be back at the cruise terminal at least 60 minutes before all-aboard. On a typical 08:00-22:00 call that leaves you about 12 usable hours, on a 09:00-18:00 call about 7, and on an 11:00-18:00 call only about 5.

This guide walks you through that maths hour by hour, with three worked examples from the ships in our current calendar, so you know exactly what fits before you step ashore.

Agadir from cruise ship: the four numbers that decide your day

Every call page on our find your ship section uses the same rules. They are worth knowing, because they explain why some rides appear for your ship and others do not.

  • Earliest pickup = arrival + 30 minutes. That is the time it usually takes to disembark and walk to the cruise terminal gate. On big ships it can take longer.
  • Start time = pickup time at the terminal. When a ride says 10:00, that is when the driver meets you at the gate, not when you get on a camel.
  • Back at the ship = start + the full listed duration + 30 minutes' drive. For a ride listed as "2-3 hours" we always use the upper figure.
  • Back by = all-aboard minus 60 minutes. We plan for you to be at the terminal at least an hour before all-aboard. If the line has not published an all-aboard time, we assume it is 30 minutes before departure.

A ride only "fits" your call if it starts after the earliest pickup and gets you back by that cut-off. All times on the site are Agadir local time.

Check the all-aboard time the evening before

The published departure time is not the time that matters. The all-aboard time is, and it is often earlier than the departure shown in your booking. Look for it in the ship's daily programme the evening before you arrive.

If the all-aboard is earlier than our default (departure minus 30 minutes), fewer rides fit. Say your ship leaves at 22:00 but announces all-aboard at 21:00: your back-by time drops from 20:30 to 20:00, and a ride that would have returned at 20:30 no longer works. Open your call page again and choose an earlier slot.

One more trap on Canary Islands itineraries: in winter, Agadir is usually one hour ahead of the Canaries, and Morocco usually sets its clocks back an hour during Ramadan. Ships announce "ship time". Always go by what your ship announces for all-aboard, and remember that our call pages show Agadir local time.

Worked example 1: a long call, 08:00-22:00

This is the classic pattern for AIDAblu, AIDAmar and Mein Schiff 7, along with Mein Schiff 3 and Mein Schiff Relax. With the default all-aboard of 21:30, your numbers are: earliest pickup 08:30, back by 20:30, about 12 usable hours.

That is enough time for almost anything we offer, including an evening ride:

Because each ride is short, a long call even lets you do two: the 10:00 camel ride, lunch in town, then the 16:00 Timlalin trip. The one start that does not fit is the 17:05 sunset BBQ ride: it would get you back at 20:35, five minutes past our margin, so we do not offer it for these calls. The sunset rides guide explains the evening options in detail.

Worked example 2: a mid-length call, 09:00-18:00

Marella Discovery 2 typically calls at Agadir from 09:00 to 18:00 through the winter. Default all-aboard is 17:30, so your earliest pickup is 09:30 and you need to be back by 16:30. That gives you about 7 usable hours.

What fits:

  • The 2-hour camel ride at 10:00, 12:00 or 14:00. The 14:00 start returns around 16:30, exactly on the cut-off.
  • The Flamingo River camel ride at 10:00.
  • The daytime camel ride with meal at 10:05 or 12:05.
  • The quad and camel combination at 10:00, back around 14:30.
  • The quad, camel and sandboarding trip at 10:00 or 11:00.

What does not fit: any sunset ride, the horse ride and the 09:00 Crocoparc trip, because pickup only starts at 09:30.

A relaxed Marella day might look like this: off the ship by 09:30, camel ride at 10:00, back at the terminal around 12:30, then the ship's shuttle or a taxi to the beach promenade for lunch and a walk. You return to the gate with time to spare. Our Marella guide goes deeper into this call.

Worked example 3: a short call, 11:00-18:00

Seven Seas Navigator and, on some December dates, Oceania Sirena arrive at 11:00 and leave at 18:00. Earliest pickup is 11:30, back by 16:30: about 5 usable hours.

Only two things fit:

  • The 2-hour camel ride at 12:00 (back around 14:30) or 14:00 (back around 16:30).
  • The daytime camel ride with meal at 12:05 (back around 15:35).

That is a short day, and it is honest to say so. The 12:00 camel ride is the safest choice: it leaves you two hours of buffer before the cut-off, which you can spend on the promenade or simply back on board.

How to read your call page

Open the cruise calendar, find your ship and pick your date. The call page shows arrival, departure, the all-aboard time we are using, and only the rides that fit those hours. If a ride is missing, it is not a glitch: it simply does not fit your window with our 60-minute margin.

Each listed start time is a pickup time at the cruise terminal gate. Book online in about two minutes and pay in euros by PayPal or card. You get confirmation by email and WhatsApp, and the exact meeting point arrives by WhatsApp the day before. The driver waits at the port exit with a sign showing your name.

Not sure of your date yet? Use the free ship alert sign-up to be notified about your ship.

From gangway to gate: the first half-hour

Most people underestimate the start of the day. Allow about 30 minutes from docking to the gate, more on large ships or when several tour groups leave at once. You cannot walk around the commercial port freely; everyone leaves through the same cruise terminal gate, whatever the berth.

Take your cruise card and the photo ID your ship asks for: you need them to get back into the port. Wear closed shoes and comfortable clothes for riding, and save our WhatsApp number on a charged phone. The port guide covers the gate, shuttles and taxis, and our port-to-town guide explains your options if you want to explore on your own afterwards.

What happens if you are running late

Before the day. If the ship changes its schedule, message us on WhatsApp. We move your ride to a time that still fits, or refund in full if no time works. Cancellation is free up to 48 hours before the start time; within 48 hours it is not refundable.

On the day. If disembarkation is slow, message us on WhatsApp straight away so the team knows where you are. Be clear about one thing: the ship does not wait for independently booked tours. Our 60-minute margin is careful planning, not a guarantee. It is there to absorb slow traffic on the coast road, which can build in the late afternoon. If that risk worries you, read our honest comparison of a ship excursion vs an independent tour before you decide.

Plan your Agadir port day

Find your ship and date in the cruise calendar to see exactly which rides fit your hours. If you want one sure choice for almost any call, the 2-hour camel nature ride at 18 € per person, with terminal pickup and mint tea included, works on nearly every schedule we see.

Frequently asked questions

It depends on your call. Count from arrival plus 30 minutes to all-aboard minus 60 minutes. An 08:00-22:00 call gives about 12 usable hours, a 09:00-18:00 call about 7 and an 11:00-18:00 call about 5, assuming all-aboard is 30 minutes before departure.
