Full description

Ideal if you start your holiday in Marrakech and finish on the coast, this 3-day route crosses the High Atlas, the Dades Valley, the Sahara at Merzouga and the Anti-Atlas before ending at your hotel in Agadir. You travel in an air-conditioned minibus with up to 17 seats and a driver-guide who speaks English, French and Spanish. Day 1 (about 7 hours of driving): pickup at 7 AM from your riad or hotel in Marrakech. Cross the High Atlas by the Tizi n'Tichka pass (2,260 m), stopping for photos of Berber villages, then explore UNESCO-listed Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou with a local guide for about an hour before lunch. Pass Ouarzazate and its film studios, the Skoura palm grove and the Rose Valley at Kelaat M'Gouna on your way to a hotel in the Dades Valley or Tinghir for dinner and the night. Day 2 (about 5 hours of driving): after breakfast, walk into Todra Gorge between cliffs some 300 m high, stop for lunch in Tinghir and cross the Tafilalet plateau via Erfoud to Merzouga. Leave your big luggage at the auberge, take a small bag, and ride your own camel for about 1 hour 30 minutes to camp as the sun sets over Erg Chebbi. Dinner, drums around the fire and a night under the stars follow. Day 3 (about 10 hours with stops): wake early for sunrise on the dunes, return to the auberge by camel or 4x4 for breakfast and a shower, then drive west via Rissani and Alnif into the palm-filled Draa Valley and on through Agdz to Ouarzazate. There you switch from the group minibus to a private taxi for the final stretch via Taznakht, known for its Berber carpets, and Taliouine, the saffron capital, arriving at your Agadir hotel around 8:30 PM. Good to know: this is a road trip with long driving days, broken up by photo, coffee and lunch stops. The price is for the standard camp (tents with shared bathrooms); luxury tents with a private bathroom and shower are available on request.
